Surgery and more surgery
Amira took off her spiderman costume long enough this morning to put on her doctor coat and help me take off my “Lilly wrap”. I peeked first to make sure it wouldn’t be bloody or bruised enough to scare her. Underneath the wrap is just a piece of surgical tape covering stitches or whatever he used. Xander says I look a little lopsided. Thanks, Buddy.
Dr. Lilly did call last night with a partial pathology report. He knew I was waiting. They did find DCIS in the tissue. At the time of the phone call the pathologists were still searching for any signs of an invasive component. Dr. Lilly says that at this point we do not have to consider my mother’s cancer history in the consideration of treatment since I did not test positive for BRCA. He says that saving the breast may be an option but that we need to get the full report and consider the other required treatments. I don’t know what’s worse, radiation and tamoxifen or mastectomy. We are going to the Second Opinion Clinic today at Riverside to go over options and make a final decision on treatment.
